Abbreviated as
Neimenggu (Inner Mongolia), the region extends
across north and northwest frontier of China,
bordering on Russia and the Republic of
Mongolia. Taking an area of 1,1 million square
kilometers, with a population of 23,67 million,
the region is the home to Mongolians which
making up one-ninth of the total population of
the province. The rest ethnic groups are Hans,
Daurs, Ewenkis, Oroqens, Huis, Manchurians,
Koreans and others. |

Founded in 1947, it is the first ethnic
autonomous region in China. The capital is Hohhot City. |

The region abounds in tourist attractions of
beautiful scenery of grassland and unique
folklore. Daxing¨anling in the eastern of the
region, reputed as ^the Green Treasure House ̄,
is a kingdom of wild animals. The region has
many attractions to offer, including Mausoleum
of Genghis Khan, Tomb of Princess Zhaojun and
Wudangzhao. Horseracing, archery, wrestling,
horsemanship, folk singing and dancing are main
items for Nadam Festival, the foremost
traditional festival of Mongol nomads, taking
place every year, which would help visitors to
know about culture of the people on horseback. |

In the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the
area of grassland is 880,000 square kilometers,
or accounting for 21,7 percent of the nation¨s
total, the leading of China¨s five largest
grasslands. From east to west, are scattered
grassy marshland, typical grassland, wilderness
grassland, grassy wilderness, and desert as well
as hilly grassy marshlands, low wet and grassy
marshland, and marshy grassland,distributed
randomly |

anywhere.Major grassland tourist zones include
the Hulunbuir, Xilin Gol, Xila Muren, Huiteng
Xile and Gegen Tala. From May to September, the
lands are covered with green grass and flowers,
with big herds of cattle and sheep grazing in
the meadows, ribbon-like rivers, pearl-like
lakes and yurts resided by the Mongolians. They
all constitute beautiful and majestic pictures.
