4Sichuan Province

Located in southwest China on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Sichuan Province has an area of 480,000 square kilometers and a population of 83.29 million composed mainly of Hans, Yis, Tibetans, Huis, Qiangs and other ethnic peoples. Chengdu is the capital city of the province.

The eastern part of the province is the Sichuan Basin with an altitude of 500 meters, and the west plateau is at an elevation

from 3,000 meters to 4,000 meters above sea level. Having a vast territory and multiplex climate, Sichuan¡¯s agriculture is flourishing and reputed as ¡°the Natural Store house¡±. Sichuan is endowed with rich resources of tourism. The province is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and many historical and cultural sites. There are 9 national scenic resorts and 7 national famous historical and cultural cities in Sichuan. The major tourist attractions such as Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, Qingcheng Mount, Giant Buddha of Leshan, Emei Mount, Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huangong scenic areas, are already on the List of world Heritage of the UNESCO. Other tourist spots are Du Fu¡¯s Thatched Cottage, Marquis of Wu¡¯s Temple, Wenshuyuan Monastery, Tower of Looking over the River, Salt Museum, Daocheng Scenic Area, Jianmen Pass, Bamboo Sea in south Sichuan, and Conch Gully.
