Adventure Along the Ancient Trade
Road of Tea and Horse |
Qinhai-Tibetan plateau, regard as ¡°the
Third Pole of the Earth¡± and ¡°the Roof of the World¡±, is sparsely
populated. In the most part of if there are only small villages
scattering along the both sides of roads¡. In 1960¡¯s, during the
construction of the Yunnan-Tibetan Road, some sections of the road were
completed at the cost of 5 lives every one kilometer. The precipitous
landscape make the land inaccessible to the people living outside in the
past; but just this special geographic condition bestowed it many unique
natural landscapes, cultural relics and exotic folk customs that can not
be found in other places¡.
This adventure will go along the ancient trade road of tea and horses.
On the way we are going to encounter many ancient relics and unique
landscapes, such as the Ancient Towns of Dali and Lijiang, the famous
Tiger Jumping Gorge, Shangri-La region and the world roof ---Qinhai-Tibetan
Plateau. Meanwhile, in the tour we could view the world lowest mountain
glacier ¨C Mingyong Glacier about 2,100 meters above sea level, the grand
Meili Snow Capped Mountain (6740 meters), as well as, pass through
countless mountain passes that exceed 4,000 meters above sea level. If
we are lucky, we could also meet the pious pilgrims who set out from
their hometown and measure the long road leading to Lhasa, the Holly
place in their hearts, with their body by prostrating length by length.
While driving our four-wheel-driving land cruisers and running on the
Roof of the World, crossing snow covered mountains, forests, grasslands,
lakes and rivers, what a wonderful experience it would be! ¡. I am sure
the daily experiences in the tour would be a memorable trip in your
whole life!

Notice:¢Ù persons who have following
condition could not participate this adventure: high-blood pressure,
heart problem, vegetarian, disability or still having ailment.
¢Ú During the tour, try to have no friction with local people. Once
frictions come out, information of tour leader is necessary. Then the
tour leader would solve the problem.
¢Û the local custom and religion must be respected.
¢Ü the items that need to be prepared by tour participants themselves:
sunglasses, cold-proof cap, gloves, winter clothes, rainwear, Sneakers
and common medicine that you think it is necessary for you during the
tour. But the following things are not suitable to be carried on tour:
valuable jewelries, contact lens and other things that are fragile.
¢ñ Itinerary:
Day 01, Entry of Kunming
Meeting in hotel at 5 pm in the evening. Then a reception dinner is
arranged. At the dinner, first, the self-introduction of all the tour
participants are arranged; then a brief introduction of the adventure,
as well as the things that need to be cautious during the tour is
followed.
Day 02, Kunming
Kunming, as the capital city of Yunnan Province, is called ¡°the spring
town¡± by Chinese people, with flowers all year round. In Kunming, we are
going to explore the Stone Forest, ¡°the First Wonder Under Heaven¡± about
90 km away from the Kunming City.
Day 03, Kunming/Lijiang (579 km)
Leave Kunming for Lijiang, a town full of charm not only for its
beautiful landscape, but also for its reach and colorful culture. In the
late afternoon, we are going to explore the delicate designed town ---
Dayan Ancient Town, a cultural relic registered on the List of World
Heritage.
Day 04, Lijiang/ZhongDian
Leave Lijiang for Zhongdian and continue our exploration western ward to
Shangri-La region, a charming land and well known worldwide. Today, we
are going to explore the First Bent on the Yangtze River ¨CShigu (stone
drum) Town, as well as the famous gorge ---the Tiger Jumping Gorge¡±
Day 05, Zhongdian/D¨§q¨§n (120km)
Leave Zhongdian for D¨§q¨§n, a small mountainous town about 3,600 meters
above see level. On the way, we are going to drive across Benzilan
Basin, Lancang River and Baimang Snow Capped Mountain; and will explore
the Grand Canyon of Jinsha River, the beautiful Baimang Snow Capped
Mountain and Songzhanlin Monastery, a famous monastery that is entitled
as ¡°the Minor Potala Palace¡±.
Day 06, D¨§q¨§n/Markam
Leave D¨§q¨§n for Markam, the first town that we are going to stay in
Tibet. Small and simple, as the town of Mangkang could be, but it is the
real transportation hub on the road of Sichuan-Tibet Road and Yunnan-Tibetan
Road. On the way we are going to explore the beautiful canyon of Lancang
River.
Day 07, Markam/Bamda
Leave Markam for Bamda, a small village that is very important for
travelers to refresh themselves. On the way we are going to run across
the Bamda Grassland, a beautiful meadow bordered by Snow Capped
Mountains and dotted with grazing yaks under blue sky.
Day 08, Bamda/Ranwu
Leave Bamda for Ranwu, a small and important town perching on the bank
of the beautiful Ranwu Lake. Today, we are going to explore the
beautiful scenery of Ranwu Lake. Here, the beautiful scenery around the
lake would be the best relief to get ride off all the weariness of so
many days¡¯ tour.
Day 09, Ranwu/Bomi
Continue driving westward for Bomi, a comparatively modern town than
previous ones we stayed. The town is enclosed in the arms of a forest
with snow-capped mountains around. On the road we are going to drive
across Yela Mountain Pass about 4,618 meter above sea level.
Day 10, Bomi/Nyingchi
Leave Bomi for Nyingchi, the beautiful land that is compared as the
Switzerland of Tibet by some people. But here, its land, its people are
more exotic and primitive. On the way we are going to run across Sheqila
Mountain Pass about 4,515 meters above sea level.
Day, 11 Nyingchi/ Lang County
Leave Nyingchi for Lang County, a beautiful town perching in the inner
land of Nyingchi Prefecture and is endowed with the typical landscape in
southern China. Today, we are going to explore its beautiful landscape
and exotic cultural customs.
Day, 12 Nan Xian County/Zedang
Continue exploring westward and driving for Zedang, a place that is
considered as the cradle of Tibetan culture. Today, we are going to
explore the Grand Canyon of Yarlung Zangbo River, the largest canyon in
the world with a vertical botanical distribution of all kinds.
Day, 13 Zedang/Lhasa
Leave Zedang for Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet, as well as a sacred
place in the heart of Tibetan people. On the way we are going to visit
the famous Cangzhu Temple, one of the earliest architecture in the
Songtsan Gambo¡¯s age, and the Yongbu Lakang, the first castle in Tibet
built 2 century Before Christ.
Day, 14 Lhasa
Sightseeing in Lhasa. Visit the grand Potola Palace, the world famous
castle style palace and registered on the List of the World Heritage,
and the famous Jokhang Monastery, as well as the colorful local market
---Barkhor Street.
Day 15, Lhasa/Beijing
In the morning, visit Norbulingka, the famous summer palace for head
lama in the past. In the afternoon, leave Lhasa for Beijing by air CA411
(15:35 ¨C20:30).
Day 16, Beijing/Homeward
After breakfast, end the tour in Beijing.
